My Mother and her cat moved to Harbison Shores about a month and a half ago. Mother made the decision to move to assisted living herself, and we were very blessed that CarePatrol helped us find Harbison Shores shortly after she made the decision. Mother keeps telling us how content she is to be at Harbison Shores and how safe she feels, and the cat has settled in nicely as well. The staff and leadership team have all been lovely to work with. We have very much appreciated how responsive they all are to our requests and emails, and how ...kind they are to the residents. The wooded setting and outdoor areas are calming and beautiful, and Mother's apartment is perfect. Having Mother at Harbison Shores has lifted many anxieties from all our shoulders!

It’s already October! Although the seasons don’t exactly change here in Irmo, South Carolina, it is still exciting to decorate for fall and Halloween! Whether you enjoy going all out with decorations or keeping it simple, the fun of the holidays doesn’t stop in our senior living community! The common areas at Harbison Shores are the perfect place for residents to gather together for activities, while still socially distancing. Here are 5 Halloween activities and crafts for seniors to complete this month!
1. Decorate Pumpkins
One of the best Halloween traditions is making jack-o-lanterns. Seniors can decorate their pumpkins with paint or draw designs with sharpies. Displays of the unique pumpkins can be made in the front office, dining room, or outside residents rooms!
2. Costume Contest
A creative activity is for seniors to find spare materials, clothing, or props and create a homemade costume! They can use their creativity to become a historical figure, character, animal, or anything of their imagination! On Halloween, residents can vote on whose costume they like the best!
3. Tell Spooky Stories
Halloween is known as a spooky, scary day! Residents can socially distance in any of the common areas at Harbison Shores and take turns sharing scary stories with one another. They may tell a traditional story that has been passed down for generations, make up their own spooky situation, or share their own frightening experience!
4. Horror Movie Marathon
For residents that love a good horror movie, this option is perfect! Invite your friends over, grab your blanket and a snack, and pick a classic Halloween thriller to enjoy the spookiness of the season.
5. Senior Living Trick-or-Treat
Trick-or-treating is a timeless Halloween tradition that can be continued even in Senior Living! Residents in Assisted Living and Memory Care may prefer to ask Harbison Shores staff to set up treat bowls for them in common areas around the facility!
Halloween is just as fun at Harbison Shores because of our passionate staff and friendly residents! Join in on the festivities as soon as you move in!
